Where Have We Been?

Hello fellow Pro Toolians, and welcome to the New Year! We are just getting settled back into the real world after being gone for Christmas and New Years and spending a week up at Digidesign talking about all of the joys and wonders of Pro Tools 8. There are so many new features and instruments inside of ‘The Ocho’ so we have PLENTY of things to talk about this upcoming year.

Some event topics that we are currently exploring are:
- Mixing in surround sound,
- Mixing & Sound Design for video games (oh yeah!),
- Instrument plug-ins (since there are so many available now), and
- Beat Detective vs. Elastic Audio (one of my personal favorites).

These are just some of the ideas that we are passing around, but, WE NEED YOUR HELP! Let us know what YOU want to talk about. The whole idea of this group is to help YOU so YOU need to speak up and let YOUR voice be heard. Leave a comment here on the site or send me an email at: caleb@tracsd.com with your suggested topics or ideas.

Stay tuned, we are hoping our first event will come about in February or March. I promise, it will be worth your wait!

    Hey Caleb, et al,

    Happy new year!

You guys gave me a heads up that the SDPTUG was going online but this is the first time I’ve has a chance to tune in. Looks like a good start! I’d like to participate were I can so please keep me in the loop about the upcoming meeting.

Over the holiday my Pro Tools world saw upgrades from Tiger / 7.4 to Leopard / 7.4.2 on the HD side, and 7.4.2 to “ocho”, on the LE side. LE is sorta my beta platform and so far 8 is running pretty well there for a “dot-0″ release. Still adapting to the Logic look but the automation lanes and MIDI improvements are working as advertised. Some important things have been relocated in the new release which threw me for a loop at first (I chased my tail for a while finding the grid on /off switch, etc.) which is a bit of a gotcha and probably the kind of things you will be reviewing in your excellent training classes, but once I get settled in to the new environment I think all in all it will be a better place.

    But enough about me… :-)

    Cheers all!
